Master Gunsmith's Tower and Aventinus House
The famous Gothic stepped gable Aventinus House is located in the fourth courtyard. The father of Bavarian history, known in Latin as Aventinus (Johann Thurmayr of Abensberg) lived here from 1509-1510 while he was the tutor to princes Ludwig and Ernst. It is believed that Aventinus started writing the history of Bavaria while living here.
This courtyard also contained a large building known as the Haberkasten which served as a stable for one hundred horses on the main floor and was used to store grain on the second floor. Another building has been built where the Haberkasten once stood but today it serves as a Youth Hostel.
Some People who were believed to not be following the norms, mores, rules and/or laws of the society could find themselves residing in the fourth courtyard. They could be in the Prison, Torture Tower or Witches Tower and spending time in the torture chamber or deep dungeon.
