Burghausen Castle
is the longest existing castle in Europe.
It is over a kilometer long (six tenths of a mile)
and has six different courtyards.
Above is the main castle in the first courtyard.
Each courtyard had or has it's own fortified gate, moat and wooden
drawbridge. Likewise each courtyard was build during a different time and
has it's own personal history.
Below again is the 1st Courtyard. We will start with the 6th Courtyard since that is the way most people enter the Castle (that is where the parking lot is).
1 Hof - Hauptburg, Staatliche Gemaeldesammlung, Aussichtsplattform,
Historisches Stadtmuseum mit Sandtnermodell
2 Hof - Georgstor, Waffenplatz
3 Hof - Kornkasten, Schwurfinger, Pfefferbuechsen
4 Hof - Aventinushaus, Athanor Theater - Kademie, Folterturm
5 Hof - Hedwigskapelle, Gaertnerturm
6 Hof - Liebenweinturm, Brunnenhaus mit Uhrturm, Fotomuseum
