This is one of the largest and most changed courtyards of the castle. It has a wide green or common area and you usually notice the beautiful Clock Tower which sits right in the middle. The Clock Tower was built during the 1400's and has a well house attached to it. Today this courtyard is very open and accessible. During its hey day this courtyard was very secure with only one entrance. A long building known as the Schutt protected this main entrance along with an outer wall. This was such an effective defensive structure that Napoleon had it pulled down between 1800 and 1801 so that it could never be used against him.
During the Middle Ages many of the top or master officials, clergy, craftsmen and their families were privileged to live and have their workshops in the sixth courtyard. It also had a horse pond and a horse drawn mill. The towers of this sixth courtyard are very interesting because on the right hand side the Forester's Tower, the Judge Officer's Tower and the Chaplain's Tower were built during the 1300's and are square. On the left hand side are the Revenue Officer's Tower, the Carpenter's Tower and the Chimney Sweep's Tower. These were built during the 1400's and are circular.
